  1. What are the preschool’s tuition rates?
St. Mark Community Preschool’s tuition rates are below-market for our community, providing an excellent preschool program at affordable rates. Discounts are available for families able to pre-pay tuition for the entire or half of the academic year.

Tuition is calculated on an annual basis and may be paid in 10 equal monthly installments, beginning on July 1. Specific rates for the 2007-08 school year are outlined on the chart below:

A non-refundable registration fee of $125.00 per family is due each year with the first month’s tuition, when a space is available for your child (children). This amount includes a disaster preparedness fee. Tuition is calculated on an annual basis, and may be paid in one of three ways: Ten (10) equal monthly payments (no discount); two (2) payments (3% discount); or one (1) payment (5% discount). A 10% discount of the younger child’s tuition will be given for families with two children enrolled.

      Annual
    10 payments 2 payments 1 Payment
Days Tuition Due August 1 to April 1 Due August 1 & Jan. 1 Due August 1
    2 $2,900.00 $290.00 $1,407.00 $2,775.00

    3,153.00
    6,175.00

The first month’s tuition installment is due with the non-refundable registration fee upon enrollment.
Thereafter, tuition payments are due on the first of each month, August through April. Tuition payments are due regardless of illness or vacations. The preschool requires one month’s notice of intention to withdraw from enrollment after Aug.1. If a child is withdrawn after April 1, the unpaid balance of the year’s tuition is due at that time. Note: If there is a change in tuition rates, at least 30 days’ notice will be given.

  2. What types of activities will my child participate in at St. Mark Community Preschool?
St. Mark Community Preschool’s program offers a balance of indoor and outdoor activities. The school provides its students with a variety of concrete experiences to help them distinguish and create patterns in the world around them. The Preschool also provides them with many opportunities to improve their communications skills. The program also includes art, music, rhythmic movement and dramatic play. The children are encouraged to appreciate the wonders of God’s creation, and students also learn about people from other cultures.

  3. How old must my child be to enroll?
The Preschool enrolls children who are 2 years, 9 months old by September through the age of five. Children must be toilet-trained as there are no diaper-changing facilities at the Preschool.

Classrooms are grouped by ages and are color-coded so that children and families can readily identify their classrooms, as follows:
  4. • Young three year olds, Room 3, Yellow
    • Older three year olds and young 4 year olds, Room 2, Green
    • Pre-K 1 (older four year olds) Room 6, Red
    • Pre-K 2 (five year olds) Room 7, Blue

  5. When does the preschool operate?
The preschool generally follows the same calendar as the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, with a brief summer session also available. Hours are from 9:15 to 1:15 p.m., including lunch time and a rest period. An extended day is available Monday through Thursday until 2:15 p.m. on a daily sign-up basis.

A child may be enrolled for any combination of days that class openings allow, with family needs given consideration whenever possible.

  6. What does my child need to bring each day?
Each child should bring a sack lunch (such as a sandwich and fruit) to school each day. The school will provide a luncheon beverage. Parents share in providing a nutritious mid-morning snack. This is supplemented with food created by the children in various cooking projects.

  7. What if my child is ill?
A child must be kept at home if there are any symptoms of illness. This will allow the child to recover more quickly, as well as keep the illness from spreading to other children.

  8. What is the maximum class size and staffing ratio?
The maximum class size is 12, with two teachers in each class, for a ratio of six students to one teacher. The high level of staffing provided by St. Mark Community Preschool is one reason for its strong reputation—the ratio of six students to one teacher is twice as favorable as that required by the State of California, which mandates just one teacher for every 12 preschool students.

  9. Is St. Mark Community Preschool licensed?
The preschool is licensed by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, of the State of California. Our facility number is 300602305.

  10. How do I enroll my child?
    1. Arrange for you and your child to visit the school and have an informal interview with the director. Please contact the office (949-644-1442) for an appointment.

    2. Fill out the registration application and return it to the office, along with a $25 application fee. The date the application is received determines your place on the waiting list.

    3. When the preschool notifies you that we have an opening, you will be asked to return a signed copy of the preschool contract and a non-refundable registration fee of $110.00 per family.

    4. Each child must have a physical examination and all necessary immunizations before school begins.

Please note that families of St. Mark Presbyterian Church and siblings of current or previously enrolled students are given admission priority.
